I have a problem with my neck, which appears as though it may be a disc compression - would swimming help with this or would it put more pressure on the neck (please bear in mind that I am a recreational swimmer who has yet to master the proper breathing technique for the front crawl!)?

Ian Austin - I am a fairly strong and confident swimmer in most areas of my swimming - stroke, time etc, but I struggle with putting my face in the water, because I end up getting my breathing all wrong and feel like I swallow half the pool! Are there some exercises I can practice to get used to putting my face in the water and thereby improve my swimming.

Hi, I am lucky enough to live near the sea in the Canary Islands. The only measure of distance for my swimming is to count the strokes. Please, is there an average length for breaststroke and front crawl? How many strokes should I be doing per quoted length on your programmes? I have a hip replacement which is fine but have 2 arthritic knees, both of which will benefit from the exercise.
Also, have you any aquarobic exercises that will help strengthen the knees?
